Prakash Raj to direct Aamir Khan?

After establishing his acting prowess in Bollywood, looks like it's now time for Prakash Raj to show his mettle as a director. If sources are to be believed, he will direct the Hindi remake of 'Abhiyum Naanum'.
And the highlight is that the lead role of a doting father (which was played by Prakash Raj in the Tamil version) will be enacted by Aamir Khan, who is said to be so keen about being part of the project.


"Aamir Khan was thoroughly impressed after watching Abhiyum Naanum recently. He is looking forward to kick start the Hindi version, which will be produced by Boney Kapoor," sources say.


Directed by Radha Mohan, the Tamil version had Prakash Raj, Trisha, Aishwarya and Ganesh Venkatraman in lead roles. It spoke about the bond shared between a father and his daughter and how father may not accept that his little one is not a kid anymore.

'Kochadaiyaan' post-production in 3 countries

Things can't get bigger than this for Kollywood. Apparently for the first time in the history of Tamil cinema, post-production works for Superstar Rajinikanth's forthcoming film 'Kochadaiyaan' are taking place in three countries.

According to Dr Murali Manohar, who is co-producing the film, "Shooting is over and we are busy with post-production. Works are currently going on in London, Hong Kong and Los Angeles."


A team led by director Soundarya R Ashwin is shuttling between these three countries to supervise and monitor the work, we learn. It is expected that two more months would be required to complete the project.


Being made on 3D using performance capture technology, 'Kochadaiyaan' will hit the screens in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, English and Japanese. Music is by A R Rahman.

Dhanush in and as 'Sottavazhakutty'

It is official at last. Director Sargunam of 'Kalavani' and 'Vaagai Sooda Vaa' fame has confirmed that his next film would be with Dhanush and it has been titled 'Sottavazhakutty'.


Explaining the meaning of the title, he said, "It is a very common word used in the villages of Thanjavur district, which is my native. Sottavazhakutty means a smart, handsome and intelligent young man."

Stating that Dhanush was very much happy with the script and the title, Sargunam adds, "Dhanush will fit very well into the role. In fact, the protagonist roles in Kalavani and Vaagai Sooda Vaa too were tailor made for him. But we were not able to join hands then."


He said 'Sottavazhakutty' will be a mix of comedy and romance. "We are currently finalizing rest of the members of the cast and crew. The shooting will start very soon," concludes Sargunam.

Dhanush: I only suggested Priya Anand's name

You would have read in these columns a couple of days ago that Siva Karthikeyan and Priya Anand would work together for a film to be produced by Dhanush, titled 'Edhir Neechal'. Now it is emerging that Priya was handpicked for the role by Dhanush.


If sources are to be believed, the National Award winning actor was impressed with Priya's performance in '180' and 'Vamanan'. Hence he asked director Senthil (a former associate to Vetrimaaran) to have the actress on board.


On learning that it was Dhanush who recommended her for the role, Priya, it is learnt, called on the actor who was starting for a foreign country, and expressed her gratitude.


Meanwhile, talking about the film, Dhanush says, "Only the title was inspired by a yesteryear movie directed by K Balachander with Nagesh in the lead. The story is totally different. Also, I didn't recommend Priya for the role. I just suggested her name. That's it."

Mani Ratnam blows another candle

It's not just the music maestro Ilayaraja's birthday today. Another film legend, ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam blows another candle today (June 2). Six time National Award winner, Mani, is currently working on 'Kadal'.
 
Everything about 'Kadal' has been kept under the wraps, including the hero! Popular actor Karthik's son Gautham is being launched through this flick but the star kid's face is kept away from the media! Cast opposite him is Samantha. The film has music by AR Rahman, of course.

Earlier media was abuzz that the film has been titled 'Pookadai' however Mani squashed them as baseless rumors. Several scenes from the film have been shot in the coastal regions of TN and the next schedule is yet to kick start.

'Kadal' is eagerly awaited by Mani's fans as the film is an out and out romantic entertainer, and brings back the filmmaker to a south based project after quite sometime.

Ameer's next is 'Jihad'?

Ameer is all set to start his next. The director whose 'Aadhi Bhagavan' is yet to release, will commence his forthcoming venture soon. If sources are to be believed, it has been titled 'Jihad'.
 
"Though the title is Jihad, the movie will have no controversies. It will not hurt anyone's sentiments. It will be a clean entertainer with a nice message," say sources, adding: "Besides wielding the megaphone, Ameer will also play the lead role."

The 'Paruthi Veeran' maker, who was set to play the lead role in Bharathiraja's comeback venture 'Annakodiyum Kodiveeranum', is no more part of the project now. Sources say he would utilize the dates he allotted to 'Annakodiyum....' to 'Jihad'.

Ameer is in the news for the past few months, ever since the tussle over wages between Film Employees Federation of South India and Tamil Film Producers Council intensified. The actor-director stood on the side of workers.

Hansika turns a school girl for Suriya

Hari, who is planning to do a sequel on Singam has disclosed the role Hansika is going to play. The OKOK girl, who is affectionately called as ‘Chinna Kushbu’ of Kollywood will portray the role of a school girl in Singam 2. This is the first time Suriya and Hansika are coming together for a film. Hari is also looking to retain the original cast of Singam for the sequel. The director has also convinced Aachi Manorama to act in it. Devi Sri Prasad has been roped in again to do the music for the film.  


Santhanam will also be among the cast list. “We both have become sort of a pair,” said Hansika in a recent interview, commenting on the fact that she and Santhanam are doing a lot of films together post OKOK this year including Singam 2, Settai, Vaalu and Vettai Mannan.
